The Mechanic/Shop Assistant for Thorcon will oversee the repair of equipment and coordination of equipment maintenance for Thorcon’s fleet of equipment. They are tasked with Equipment Inspections, Work orders and monitoring inventory levels.
The Mechanic/Shop Assistant reports to the Shop/Equipment Manager, and works closely with the General Superintendent and New Project Expeditor for each task. Manage Shop Assistants with tasks and priority of tasks needed completed.
Primary Functions:
- Determining Equipment repair needs through technical details and schedules
- Execute preventative and break down repairs on all Thorcon equipment
- Work in the shop and in the field to perform duties and repairs
- Notify Materials Manager for the need of orders for parts and shop supplies
- Trouble shoot repairs through technical materials and interacting with Factory representatives
- Supervise, evaluate and coach staff members on shop duties and time management
- Interfaces with operations on the planning and forecasting of preventative maintenance
- Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and technical support
- Perform maintenance and repairs according to specifications
- Ensures that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all shop department functions
Responsibilities Include:
- Determine repair needs through technical details and schedules
- Manage the repair & modification of equipment to meet project requirements
- Coordinate the readiness of equipment according to priorities and specifications of operations and project
- Resolve problems to speed up readiness of equipment
- Inspect equipment upon arrival and departure to ensure the correct quality and setup
- Monitor inventory of supplies for shop
- Notify Materials Manager of orders when needed aiming for timely delivery and competitive price
- Maintain clean and safe shop environment and inspect and clean all shop tools/equipment daily
- Maintain good relationships with suppliers and vendors
- Keep accurate records
Requirements
- Proven experience as Mechanic/Shop Assistant or relevant position
- Ability to understand technical specifications of material and equipment
- Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) and filing systems
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Well-organized with multi-tasking abilities
- Apt in problem-solving
- High school diploma is preferred
- 3+ years’ experience in heavy equipment repair role or related experience
- Ability to lead team members
- Customer service-oriented
- Knowledgeable of Forecasting and Repair Orders
- Ability to solve problems swiftly
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
