Superintendent

Thorcon Shotcrete and Shoring is a reputable, Colorado-based Geotechnical Contractor. Our technical team specializes in slope stabilization and design-build projects that include Micro-Piles, Shotcrete/Gunite, Rock Bolts and Ground Anchors on DOT, Federal, Heavy Civil, Commercial and Residential projects.

Established in 2014, Thorcon has seen rapid growth since 2018 – posting increases of 30% plus each year. As Thorcon grows our footprint is spreading – we now operate in six states and counting.

The Superintendent provides on-site coordination for all phases of construction projects, including coordinating subcontractors, materials, equipment, and field staff. The Superintendent ensures that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. The Superintendent shall be responsible for inspections, quality control, job site safety, and scheduling (crew, activities, deliveries, testing, and subcontractors). The Superintendent maintains consistent and effective communication with the Project Manager, relaying all jobsite information in a timely fashion.

The Superintendent reports to the General Superintendent, and will work closely with the Project, Materials, and Equipment/Shop Managers. The Superintendent manages the Foreman and the Field staff.

Primary Functions:

  • Schedule subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors in ‘critical path’ to ensure timely completion
  • Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work
  • Communicate with project team regarding ASI’s, RFI’s, and Material Submittals
  • Ensure that subcontractor(s) are performing and complying with their contracted scope of work
  • Coordinate and perform required inspections/testing with GC, Owner, and Engineers
  • Keep inventories for onsite materials and communicate with Project Manager
  • Place material orders when needed to maintain work flow while communicating with the Project and Materials Managers
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate in a timely fashion to project team for resolution
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly logs/reporting (written & photos) of activities on the jobsite
  • Perform Superintendent duties at multiple job sites, simultaneously
  • Ensure all deficiencies identified by GC and/or the Owner have been addressed
  • Monitor activities onsite continually and assist in future planning
  • Attend Daily/Weekly contractor meetings to coordinate the site activities
  • Issue notices of ‘non-compliance’ when necessary to subcontractors in regards to quality of work or scheduling
  • Perform job progress and completion punch lists
  • Opening the jobsite at beginning of the day and securing the jobsite at the end of the day
  • Take care of completing all reports and paperwork before and after shift – 2 hours daily

Secondary Functions:

  • Assist in obtaining locates or dig permits for approval of work
  • Gather project “material submittals” and maintain “records of approvals” at the job-site
  • Identify areas of work that are outside of subcontracted scope and notify Project Manager (for Change Order possibilities)
  • Assist in hiring & training field employees
  • Ensure that the job site is always kept clean and organized

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of field experience
  • 1 to 2 years of field management
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be on time to work
  • Ability to problem-solve on the spot
  • Ability to understand and follow directions from Management team
  • Experience with BlueBeam and Microsoft Office a must
  • Experience with Assignar and Spectrum experience a plus
  • Ability to lift 100lbs
  • Ability to work on your feet for a full shift, day after day
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time
  • High school diploma
  • Understand and follow all company policies
  • Must pass a drug test
  • Well-organized with multi-tasking abilities
  • Experience in Construction and Geotechnical construction a plus

Compensation

Thorcon pays a competitive wage, which depends on experience. The Superintendent position ranges from $65,000 to $80,000 salary, with an incentive compensation bonus program in addition to salary. Thorcon offers great growth potential and opportunities for advancement.
