Project Manager

Thorcon Shotcrete and Shoring is a reputable, Colorado-based Geotechnical Contractor. Our technical team specializes in slope stabilization and design-build projects that include Micro-Piles, Shotcrete/Gunite, Rock Bolts and Ground Anchors on DOT, Federal, Heavy Civil, Commercial and Residential projects.

Established in 2014, Thorcon has seen rapid growth since 2018 – posting increases of 30% plus each year. As Thorcon grows our footprint is spreading – we now operate in six states and counting.

The position of the Project Manager is a key position within the core management structure. This position comes with many responsibilities and the individual assuming this position must possess excellent management and even more so, leadership qualities. This Project Manager must have excellent communication, motivational, instructional and mentoring skills. Personal as well as professional integrity is necessary and this person must “Lead by Example”.

The Project Manager reports directly to the Sr. Project manager, General Manager, and Owner. You will work closely with the Estimating and Accounting departments, Equipment/Shop Manager, Materials Manager and site Superintendents.

 

Primary Functions

  • Work with Senior Management and Senior Project Manager, under their direction in a Professional manner
  • Manage and track a projects budgets, schedule, and Change orders making adjustments to the project as needed to maintain costs
  • Generate and review submittals required for projects, including any re-submittal corrections
  • Review the plans and specifications for projects, to determine project needs as well as to help the Field Staff understand these requirements
  • Assist the Materials & Equipment Managers generate purchase orders from the estimates and quotes
  • Maintain project documentation and files in a timely and organized fashion
  • Compile & assemble, or oversee the assembly of, project binders for the Project Superintendents and Foreman. So, they have the necessary project information to build the project
  • Update project schedules and/or work with Superintendents to update schedules as required by project GC/Owners
  • Update progress quantities weekly. This will provide more timely and accurate job cost reports and will make the calculation of the monthly over/under billings accurate for financial statements
  • Mentor and train personnel to help them advance towards their goals within the company. This may be Foreman, Superintendents, other PM & Jr. Project Managers, etc.…
  • Work with Thorcon team to generate change orders and with the Estimators to estimate budget costs 
  • Work with office personnel on getting the change orders into Accounting System
  • Coordinate with field personnel to deliver designs/plans to the field in a timely manner
  • Communicate with Project Superintendents on project requirements and specifications
  • Attend weekly project progress meetings with project team (owners / owner’s reps, superintendents, etc.) and conduct (lead) the meetings when necessary
  • Schedule and perform Proof and/or Verification Tests, as required by the Engineer of Records and plan specifications
  • Close out projects and ensure that all required documentation and forms are submitted for timely close out
  • Order and track locates and permits related to the project
  • Foster and/or maintain relationships with customers and clients

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all activities with Sr. Project Manager, Operations, Materials Manager and Equipment/Shop Manager
  • Track budgets of a project and make adjustments if needed
  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  • Perform QC testing for Geotechnical elements of construction
  • Maintain project documentation and files in an organized fashion
  • Attend project progress meetings with project team (owners / owner’s reps, superintendents, etc.) and conduct (lead) the meetings when necessary
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
  • Assign responsibilities and mentor project team
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Review project deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions

Skills

  • Proven working experience as a project manager or superintendent
  • Geotechnical, Civil and in field experience preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, written, and oral communication skills, with an Attention to Detail
  • Working knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD/Bluebeam Advanced MS Office skills, Assignar, and Spectrum
  • Review plans and specifications for projects to determine project needs
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  • Experience dealing with Governmental, DOT, and Federal project requirements
  • Proven knowledge of key trade subcontractors in Colorado is a big plus
  • Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
  • Project management and supervision skills

  • Understand and follow all company policies 
  • Must pass a drug test

Compensation

Employment with this firm starts out with a highly competitive salary and depends on experience. The Project Manager position is offering great growth potential and is paying up to $65,000- $85,000 Thorcon then adds on a generous benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance. Thorcon offers short-term and long-term disability and life insurance for those who elect, as well as a 3.5% matching 401K retirement plan.
