What Are Tiebacks?

A particularly useful way to reinforce retaining walls and add extra stability is through the use of tiebacks. A tieback is basically a steel rod or helical anchor that is inserted into the face of a retaining wall deep into the soil or bedrock behind it. The rod is anchored to the wall to prevent the wall from leaning or collapsing over time. Like most structural steel reinforcements a tieback is composed of high tensile strength steel.

The Installation

Typically tiebacks are utilized in top-down construction where the wall is constructed while excavation continues. First, a small excavation takes some of the wall material away, around 5 feet deep. Then a row of tiebacks rods are installed. After the rods are installed, wall reinforcement and bearing plates are installed. The bearing plate is used to attach the rod to the wall. This provides the stability and support by anchoring the wall deep into the soil behind it.
Finally, shotcrete is sprayed to make a thick sturdy wall. This process is then repeated until the wall reaches the total height specified by the engineering team.

Shotcrete

Shotcrete is a new leader in functional and creative construction for endless possibilities.

Rock and Soil Stabilization

Rock and Soil Stabilization through a design-build approach can deliver the essential shoring requirements for your project.

Infrastructure Repair

Offering economical solutions to pipelines, bridges and roads that are low impact to the public.

Renewable Energy

Focusing on foundation elements for Solar, Wind, and Water that has evolved into site specific design-build applications.

Architectural Shotcrete

After the engineering and construction of walls, many owners go a step further in the appearance of the wall. Sculpted Shotcrete is one of many choices.
